Rex Smith Challenges for Bob Leeper’s Senate Seat
5 CommentsPosted November 6th, 2009 6:02 am
Bob Leeper has had trouble deciding what he wants to be. First he wanted to be a Democrat, then he wanted to be a Republican, and finally, he wanted to be an independent. Now, Rex Smith wants him to be out of office. Smith’s entry brings another highly financed candidate for 2010 in the state Senate for the Democratic Party.
The last quarter of 2009 will be the first fundraising results for Smith. Look for Rex Smith to set a record for the amount of money raised by a state senate candidate in a single quarter, even before he reaches into the horse industry for support. Smith’s support in the area is very strong.
Rex Smith reportedly will challenge Sen. Leeper
Former Democratic state Rep. Rex Smith will run against independent incumbent Bob Leeper next year for the 2nd Senate District in far Western Kentucky, state Democratic Party Chairman Charlie Moore said Monday night.
Moore, appearing on Kentucky Educational Television’s “Kentucky Tonight,” said Smith has informed him that he will seek the Senate seat. Smith did not return phone calls Tuesday for comment.
Leeper, a Paducah chiropractor, has represented the district since 1991 as a Democrat, Republican and independent. It covers Ballard, Marshall and McCracken counties.

I’m not too optimistic that the Democrats will take the state senate. I don’t think that they’re going to get the open US Senate seat, either, but stranger things have happened.

If Rand Paul is the senate nominee, it will be a very very very close race for the U.S. Senate.
As far as the state senate, I guess that’s why they call them races–nobody can say for sure.

Why did Rex Smith quit the last time he was state rep??

Why did Bob Leeper flip flop from being a Democrat to being a Republican to being an independent?

Leepers ‘motivation’ was published in the P S-D [Sun-Democrat, a Republican, Paper]. Has anyone asked Rex?
Does it matter?
Does nayhing matter more than 21 Democrats in the State Senate and 69 Democrats in the U.S. Senate?
