Democratic State Senator Ed Worley Retires – An Open Seat to Defend
No CommentsPosted January 21st, 2010 5:55 am
Democratic State Senator Ed Worley has announced he is retiring after 12 years in the Kentucky state senate. With two Republican candidates already for the seat, it requires the Democratic Party to defend an open seat during a cycle that it had hoped to use to pick up two opposition seats. Worley had been the subject of Herald-Leader articles on his building rental contracts in Richmond with the Administrative Office of the Courts for the Madison County Judicial Center.
FRANKFORT — Senate Minority Leader Ed Worley, D-Richmond, said Wednesday that he will not seek re-election to the state Senate after serving in the chamber since 1999.
Worley said people are encouraging him to run for secretary of state next year but it’s too early to say if he will take that advice.
“I’m trying now to serve in the Senate and finish out my term the best that I can,” said Worley, 53, a general contractor.
