Andre Bauer: Making South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford Look Good
16 CommentsPosted January 26th, 2010 5:59 am
It’s extremely early, but the following comments will hopefully be among the worst to be heard during what is certain to be a shocking 2010 election season. South Carolina Lt. Governor Andre Bauer is willing to throw red meat to his constituents, and doesn’t mind if that red meat is from impoverished and even starving fellow citizens, who he says should be considered as and treat as stray animals. From change.org:Speaking at a town hall meeting on Friday, Bauer told lawmakers and voters, “My grandmother was not a highly educated woman, but she told me as a small child to quit feeding stray animals. You know why? Because they breed. You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply. They will reproduce, especially ones that don’t think too much further than that. And so what you’ve got to do is you’ve got to curtail that type of behavior. They don’t know any better.”
He didn’t stop there. He added that the state should cut off public assistance to residents who fail drug tests or who don’t attend parent-teacher conferences or PTA meetings. He suggested that the state tell people on public assistance: “’Look, if you receive goods or services from the government, then you owe something back.’” Bauer thinks that using drugs and missing PTA meetings are products of laziness, refusing to believe that addiction is not a choice and that parents may have valid reasons for being unable to attend optional PTA meetings (lack of transportation and childcare, second shift jobs, etc.).

20 years ago there was a delivery driver from Louisville who would, along with the goods he delivered to my restaurant each week, bring me the news of his rather lively household which consisted of 6 children and 4 grandchildren and his wife. One daughter-the oldest- a 16 year old was particuarly troublesome to him, because since the age of 13, she had given birth to 3 children. One day I asked him, why don’t you get some birth control for that girl, or have her tubes tied, or something ??? His answer just amazed me…”because I get another $400. a month for each of them baby’s from the welfare.” Plus, his daughter was elegible for the w.i.c. program, food stamps etc., which contributed tremendously to his household. Although I live in Sout Carolina, and would never vote for Andre Bauer. I agree with his grandmother.

Strange, I received an almost identical “email” from one of my former rightwing friends just last year!
As I recall, some character named Adolph, had a plan to rid us of his “undesirables”, also.
Just a shame the “grandmother” is not around, I’m sure you could vote for her.

kentondem 1,
Next time I feel fecally deficient, I shall remember your abundant supply…tainted as it always is -

Dear Jon, you will never be fecally deficient. You had a mouthful when you arrived.

With a Master’s from USC, while at Ft.Jackson, I ran into Mr.Marsh – even ate at his burger place. Could never get correct change at the register. Always found other servicemen getting ‘dates’ there. His opinion of me was that I was a bit slow – for a soldier – and I was a bit unqualified – to be a soldier, since I had a high regard for Fritz Hollings, and none for Strom Thurmond.
Well, Mr.Marsh are you still packing fecal matter into the burger patties? Or are you now letting it mature in your mouth and other portions of your cranium.
Sorry, Bob — I just can’t resist sometimes.

Back to the point.
andre bauer has become typical for SC pols. I don’t think graham will survive the next primary. He’s become waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay tooooooooooooooooooooo liberal. And he has probably the sixth or seventh most conservative record in Congress … the ones more so are from S.Carolina – like jim dement(ed).
Bauer is a perfect example of what’s at risk here. As a republican and tea-bagger/partier, he’s praised & popular. He’s revered for his candor and persepicatious perspective. Dems on the other hand only revile his crudity that is praised & prized by republican’ts. As an example of erudite and socially perceptive, he’s in the same boat with Amadihnejad, Saddam (alTikrite), Khomeini, Rasputin, the guys who killed the Clutters, Ted Bundy, McVeigh and don’t forget Chemical Ali.
I predict that he wins South Carolina by 30 over the Democratic nominee — and — is the republican nominee to run against O’Bama in ’12.
He IS the current hero of the republican’t party. He is ALL they want him or any other candidate to be!

Lumberjock,
I’ve never met anyone in my life named lumberjock, nor did I ever own a hamburger place or joint, nor did I ever cater to servicemen or cheat them out of money as you imply. ..But thankyou for your interest in making up stories; I’m sure you have attended USC and have a Masters too! You are a good boy lumberjock. -
It seems there is a strange race to the bottom among the elected officials in S.C. We continue to get these odd statements, each one more bizarre than the last. Its like some type of collective mental disorder… could there be something in the water, I wonder?
Bob, you said “It’s extremely early, but the following comments will hopefully be among the worst to be heard during what is certain to be a shocking 2010 election season.”
I would bet you that much worse is forthcoming, but I wouldn’t want to take your money on a sucker’s bet.

Jon, I really don’t care too much about who’s fuller of you-know-what, because I suspect at the end of the day the answer would be me! If you are talking about stray animals, I can respect that your approach is one solution. But this article was one in which Bauer’s grandmother equated people to stray animals, and said that it was okay to let them and presumably their children die of starvation.
Are you saying you agree when it comes to stray animals? You don’t mean it’s okay to starve people, do you?
-
Excuse me..not just Bauer’s grandmother, obviously. Bauer also believed that was appropriate.

Bob,
From what I read of the original post, I find that Bauer’s grandmother whom I’ve never known, was addressing simple and sound advice regarding the feeding of stray animals. Her advice holds much merit to this day. My mother used to say something very similar when a stray dog or cat would appear in the yard. She would warn me emphatically-” don’t feed it, it may have rabies and if you feed it, it won’t leave.” Of course , Mom never brought up the breeding aspect, because at that age, I guess she figured that would be too much information for me to handle. Bauer’s grandmother suggests that ” you’ve got to curtail that type of behavior. They don’t know any better.” She was talking about animals. I think Andre Bauer was on the right track, but used the wrong train to drive his point home…and NO I do not believe for one second that Bauer is suggesting to starve people; nor do I. In my opinion, Bauer is suggesting that conditions should, and must exist if you or I intends to-on a regular basis-apply for, and/or accept food, goods, or services from the government, be it local, state, or federal. There has to be a system or criteria to follow…That is what Bauer is facillitating. In a state where unemployment is ranked almost at top, Andre Bauer would have to be a complete idiot to suggest that it’s people should be set out to starve. Now I am not trying to open a can of worms, nor am I supporting or would I vote for Bauer, I’m simply saying that there has to be a few checks and balances for anyone to receive government assistance. Remember your homeless family at Christmas ? If you gave the father $100. a week out of your own pocket for food, and then one day saw him coming out of a bar falling down drunk; wouldn’t the thought of his children and their whereabouts cross your mind? If you drove another block down the street and saw his wife shooting up on the corner; would you feel like you have been had, and still be concerned about where the children are ? Would you give the father another $100. at the end of the week without making some sort of condition…like-no drinking on this money, or no drug purchases, or Where are your kids going to school or are they going to school ? or would you continue to give him $100. a week without regard to his addiction, wife, or children ? -

Also from the original post:
“Bauer thinks that that using drugs and missing PTA meetings are products of laziness, refusing to believe that addition is not a choice and that parents may have some valid reason for being unable to attend optional PTA meetings ( lack of transportation and childcare, second shift jobs, etc.)” -
Jon, I’m glad we agree that people should be fed. Bauer doesn’t agree with us. He said:
“You’re facilitating the problem if you give an animal or a person ample food supply.”
There’s just no way to justify or explain that away.
And as far as your hypotheticals, we know that the government doesn’t just stand on the corner and hand out $100 bills, never has and never will. Help is for limited times and requires employment, or job training or classes. And it already has safeguards.

Actually, Jock, I have been friends with Jon for over 30 years. If I have gotten on his nerves, it isn’t the first time, and I hope it won’t be the last.
-
Well then he’s not the same Jon Marsh running the Burger Bucket on Jackson Blvd in Columbia, back in ’86 & 7.
But, dude, you’ve arrived!
