The Bullseye on Alice Forgy Kerr: A Primary Challenge from Equine Veterinarian Andrew Roberts, Then a General Challenge from Don Blevins

AliceForgyKerr1The incumbent, Republican Alice Forgy Kerry in the 12th District state senate race, has drawn double trouble. She now faces an equine veterinarian as a primary opponent, who obviously will have the full support of the very horse industry she has repeatedly voted against in the senate. Standardbred breeding equine veterinarian Andrew Roberts has filed to oppose Kerr in the primary.

Interestingly, Roberts, like Rick Hiles (who has filed to oppose Louisville Republican Julie Denton), was appointed in 2008 by Governor Steve Beshear to the volunteer Kentucky Equine Drug Research Council, which was created to advise the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission on research and testing of equine drugs. By law, the council reviews testing research conducted at the University of Kentucky or conducted elsewhere with state funds.

Terry Meyocks, who had been preparing to challenge Kerr, withdrew as a Democratic candidate to clear the field for Blevins.

Kerr will not be a state senator this time next year.
