    Smart Growth?

    Posted March 11th, 2010 5:58 am

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported on last night’s mayoral debate. The center of attention was Centre Pointe, the empty block at the center of Lexington.

Each person will have to judge for themselves what smart growth is, and whether or not the actions relating to the empty city block are consistent with smart growth. If the block’s use is to be a new city government building, it’s not at all clear that is smart growth. It is more reminiscent of Wal-Mart, which is notorious for building one huge box after another, only to abandon the previous one, or two, or three, which then become blighted properties.
