Mitch McConnell and His Mini-Me, Rand Paul: Deny Unemployment Benefits for Americans, Take Millions from Bailed Out Banks

Ironic: Kentucky’s senior senator Mitch McConnell joined grumpy old man Jim Bunning and the thing that wants to replace Bunning in telling Americans who are hurting that they need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. On the same day that McConnell hosted a $5,000 per seat Bank Bailout Ball for Rand Paul.

Denying further unemployment benefits to workers who are facing the job market that has six applicants for every available job is disturbing enough. It wasn’t enough to push through tax cuts for billionaires under Bush, while creating Medicare donut holes for the working poor and retired. It wasn’t enough to bail out banks to the tune of $700 billion with no strings attached, and then turn around and take campaign money from them. It wasn’t enough to then allow those same banks to foreclose on the workers who became unemployed because of the economic downturn caused by the banks collapse. Now, the final insult: despite those workers paying taxes to provide for unemployment protection, the Republican Party now has pulled the survival rug out from under millions of long-term unemployed Americans.

And the most ironic thing is this: Mitch McConnell is reptilian enough to savage his fellow countrymen in this manner on the Senate floor, turn, and then move on that same evening to the celebration that Rand Paul is charging $5,000 per person for and calling it a Bailout Ball, in honor of the bailed out banks that Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell are selling themselves to for political favors.

Rand Paul can scrub his web site from now until the end of time, and the stain of his inhumanity and hypocrisy will never come out.

From the New York Times:

Legislation to extend unemployment subsidies for hundreds of thousands of Americans who have exhausted their jobless benefits teetered on the edge of collapse on Thursday, as Senate Democrats and Republicans traded bitter accusations about who was to blame for an eight-week impasse.
Senate Republicans and a lone Democrat, Ben Nelson of Nebraska, joined forces to filibuster the bill in a procedural vote on Thursday. Visibly frustrated, the majority leader, Harry Reid, Democrat of Nevada, said he would move on to other business next week because he saw little chance of winning over any Republican votes.
The vote was 57 to 41, with the Democrats falling three short of the 60 votes needed to advance the measure.
“You’ll hear a lot of excuses,” Mr. Reid said at a news conference. “The bottom line is the minority just said no.”

Haven’t Kentuckians learned yet what happens when we elect doctors – MD’s, not PH.D’s – to high office? And if you’re inclined to think the two situations aren’t comparable, ask yourself when the last time was that you thought that YOUR physician had a God complex.

DO NOT ELECT ANOTHER PHYSICIAN – they think faaaaaar too much of themselves. And I am not exaggerating!!!
